Chocolate Ice Cream

by fromsugarwithstyle

Homemade ice cream has a quality unlike any you will find in a store or ice cream shop. Maybe it’s because its full of whole ingredients without all of the preservatives and artificial flavorings or maybe it’s because of the anticipation of trying the final product while preparing the recipe. Either way nothing beats the first bite of soft cream right out of the ice cream maker. I have been craving dark chocolate quite a bit lately and decided that I needed to make some chocolate ice cream to satisfy my sweet tooth. I used this recipe which was perfectly rich and chocolatey.

New Kitten!

by fromsugarwithstyle

There is nothing like the love of an animal to make a house feel like a home. J and I adopted a kitten this past Saturday from the local animal shelter. She is our first pet and has stolen our hearts already. Everyone meet Tinsel.

The Glass Castle-Jeannette Walls

by fromsugarwithstyle

I love a memoir that makes me step back and take a look at my life and how grateful I am to have it. The Glass Castle does just that. Told from the prospective of a girl who chronicles her dysfunctional life from the time she was a child to adulthood. This book tells a great story of heartache and unconventional happiness that makes you take a step back and understand a family of a different dynamic. Along with telling a great story this book is beautifully written and captures the reader from the start.

New York Times Chocolate Chip Cookies

by fromsugarwithstyle

Drop cookies are definitely not one of my favorite desserts. I tend to lean more towards treats that are covered in frosting or swimming in gooey caramel or chocolate. However with all that’s been said about these NYT chocolate chip cookies (recipe here) I had to try them and see what all of the fuss was about. I didn’t have chocolate disks so I used semi sweet chips instead. The cookies were alright, not unlike any other I have had before….Maybe its because I didn’t use the disks??

Edamame Hummas

by fromsugarwithstyle

One of my favorite things to snack on is hummus. It’s the perfect mix of both healthy and satisfying and I am always looking for new flavors. When I came across this recipe for edamame hummus online I knew I had to give it a try. It’s a nice change from the usual chic pea hummus and it just as easy to make. I ended up adding a tbsp of black pepper to the mix for an added kick. Next time I’m going to try it with a tbsp less tahini for a thicker version.

Fall Style

by fromsugarwithstyle

One thing living in los Angeles makes me miss is the crisp fall weather and the changing leaves. We get a touch here and there but it’s nothing like the fall back on the east coast where everything is cool and smells like a Yankee candle. As I sat and reminisced about my apple picking and leaf pile days I put together some necessary fall essentials.

Bottega Louie

by fromsugarwithstyle

My love and I recently celebrated our 1 year anniversary and he took me to a charming restaurant in downtown LA called Bottega Louie. It was so much fun and a much needed change of pace from our usual casual dining experiences. On top of our delicious food, they also have a selection of french macaroons that are simply fabulous.

The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch

by fromsugarwithstyle

Every now and then I come across a book that is so inspiring it changes my life. The last lecture is one of those books. Written by a man who finds out that he is dying of cancer and decides to do one “last lecture” as a tribute to his children. This book gave me the inspiration to make a list of all the things I have been putting off  or wanting to do and actually make the effort to do them. It reminded me to enjoy life a lot more and to make sure I show the people I love just how much they mean to me. It also made me realize that bad moods and negative thinking are not the way to deal with anything. This man had the most uplifting attitude even given his situation. Its was a remarkable read.

Peach and Gray

by fromsugarwithstyle

As you can probably tell by the color scheme on my blog my favorite colors are peach and gray. I love how the lighter shades come across so casual and effortless but the darker hues have a more polished and sophisticated feel. Grey and peach ( as opposed to the common black ) are definitely my go to colors when it comes to putting together a no fail outfit for any occasion.Photobucket
