Guest Posting -The Actors Diet

by fromsugarwithstyle

This weekend I am driving up to Lemoore CA to spend time with my fiance..Most weekend he drives to see me and we spend 80% of the time working on wedding plans. The other 20% is taken up with sipping wine and catching up on our favorite shows ( Dexter, Weeds and now Breaking Bad ). This weekend I am bringing a couple of books and some comfy clothes and hoping to just relax and hang out with my future husband without the pressure of having to get things done. ( Although we may google some DJs ).

Yesterday I had a “Day in the life” post up over at The Actors Diet. Check it out and get my recipe for dark chocolate bark!

Milk Glass-Wedding

by fromsugarwithstyle

I spend a lot of time browsing through wedding blogs and pinterest finding inspiration for my wedding. I am very fickle when it comes to decoration so when I find something that I continuously come back to I know that I have to incorporate it somehow. Milk glass is something I knew I had to have, I love the look of crisp white vases with simple flowers. I didn’t realize however that milk glass isn’t the easiest thing to find and when you do find it people have a tendency to charge over 20.00 for one vase. Since I need more than 50 vases this just wasnt a budget friendly option.  I decided to DIY some faux milk glass. I have been visiting thrift stores and good wills all over town and have collected a bunch of vases in different heights and shapes.

I got a white spray paint that is both primer and paint and that also bonds to plastic. This way it stuck to the glass a bit better.

It took me 3 or 4 coats to get even coverage but they turned out better than I had hoped!…..When I get all 50 done I’ll share a picture of how they all look together!

Now that our invitations are almost ready, the dresses are picked and we have the deposit down on our venue it feels like things are starting to come together. We visited florists last weekend and its incredible what can be done with flowers. If we had the budget I think I would cover everything in peonies ( which wont be in season ) and Hydrangeas and babies breath they are so romantic and beautiful. I am having a blast filling up my Pinterest board with all kinds of inspiration. This planning is making me wonder what a career in wedding planning would be like. It sounds really exciting and wonderful to help plan people’s happiest day. Maybe I should change my profession?:-)

I do have to say that all of the things we have to do does get pretty stressful. Here are a few things that keep me relaxed during all the decision making!

Clean Eating

by fromsugarwithstyle

We all hear about how important it is to eat naturally and organically but how many of us actually do? I for one am and I want to stress upon all those people who don’t take their eating seriously to listen up.

Unhealthy eating is the cause of many diseases, cancers and other health problems. We have to start really paying attention to what we put into out bodies. Supermarket shelves are chock full of preservatives, pesticides, artificial flavors and hundreds of other ingredients that are almost unpronounceable. Items containing those things should never have contact with out mouths. We are poisoning ourselves by doing so.

My rule of thumb for shopping is that I don’t but anything with ingredients I don’t understand ( which pretty much includes every pre packaged or boxed food in the store) I don’t buy anything with more than 5 ingredients ( this doesn’t mean 6 different vegetables ) and I buy almost completely organic especially with meats, dairy and most fruits and vegetables.

This way of eating is not a weight loss plan, although that’s probably what will happen.. It can include cake and pie ( in moderation ) as long as its made naturally and not filled with processed junk. Another rule I have..if i make it at home its ok to eat because I know whats going inside and that doesn’t include blue#40.

I wasnt always this way. I noshed on wheat thins and Oreos like the majority of america. I just now know what I am doing to myself by eating those things.

A couple books I found really helpful are.Food Rules by Michael Pollan

Clean Food by Terry Walters

The best thing to do is enjoy foods that were made by the earth. They are the best ones for you and will help you have a longer healthier life.

Wedding Planning

by fromsugarwithstyle

Wedding planning is taking over my life! Who knew that it would be so time-consuming. I have had to put the blog on hold a bit so that I have time to take care of the urgent details like the venue and date and dress ( I found a dress!!!! ). I feel like this could be a full time job. I am having fun doing it though, I mean I’m planning the day that I get to marry the love of my life what could be better!……Thank you all for being patient with me and I promise to be back soon! 🙂

In the mean time, here is an article I did for made woman magazine a while back that got published a few days ago!

Happy Valentines Day!

by fromsugarwithstyle

Valentines Day is my second favorite holiday of the year ( My first being Christmas of course ). I am a huge girly romantic so a day that celebrates love and that is decked out in pink is my perfect kind of day! ( The flowers and dark chocolate don’t hurt either ). I didn’t have a chance to bake anything this year. My wedding plans have taken over any and all spare time it seems!…but here are some lovely treats I have found while browsing online that I thought I would share. Hopefully next year I’ll get to try some out!

Happy Birthday Jason

by fromsugarwithstyle

This past weekend we celebrated my fiance’s birthday. Since he wasn’t here on his actual birthday ( it was on February 2nd and he was on base) I wanted to make it special from the moment he walked in the door. I decorated our place with balloons and signs and had a gift and a cake waiting for him on the table. He wanted a cake made like the one I did for my friends 2 yr old. You can find it  here as a post on I changed up the colors but used the same technique. This one was chocolate with Nutella filling and vanilla butter cream. My only problem with this cake was that the black icing took on an awful flavor because of the food coloring. I had to scrape the black parts off of my piece. Does anyone have a trick for making black icing that tastes good?? Oh! and that is also genuinely black? This one was sort of dark purple.

Christmas Saving

by fromsugarwithstyle

As I was reading one of my Dave Ramsey emails this morning I came across an article about saving for Christmas. It talks about how people seem to think Christmas sneaks up on them and that so many people fall into debt or can’t afford what they want to give because they didn’t prepare for the holiday. This is one of the things I have been passionate about for a years!…About 2 years ago now on January 1st  I started a Christmas the time is was just a cardboard box that I painted and cut a slit in the top. I would put at least 1 dollar a day in it sometimes 5 or 10 if I had extra to save for Christmas. By December 1st that year I had 800 dollars! I have now started special bank account for my Christmas money but I am doing the same thing. It makes Christmas not seem like so much of a burden and I can actually give gifts free off stress!….1 dollar a day is a great way to start because its money that you don’t really miss but it can add up when you do it for a whole year!

I wrote an entire post for last year which you can read here talking about my Christmas box. It’s one of the best budget plans I have ever done for myself and I would recommend it 100%!
